Secretary of State Mobile Office, 6th in the state, opens in Northern Michigan

TRAVERSE CITY — A ribbon cutting was held in Traverse City on Wednesday by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. A new mobile office has been launched for Northern Michigan, which is the sixth of its kind in the state, with others serving West Michigan, Southeast Michigan, Mid-Michigan and the Great Lakes Bay region.

The new office was set up in the Governmental Center at 400 Boardman Ave. for its grand opening and even had a few customers during Benson’s speech.

The mobile office brings secretary of state services directly to the public who may have limited access to the brick and mortar building. They can be set up at homeless shelters, foster care facilities, senior centers and more.

A seventh mobile office is in the works for the Upper Peninsula; that will be opening in the next couple of weeks.

“I’m proud that in just a few years we transformed our state systems, eliminated wait times for every resident, and made our services more convenient and efficient than ever before,” said Benson. “We doubled the number of services online and installed more than 160 new self-service stations, mostly at grocery stores that are open evenings and weekends.”

While this office was open for a limited time in Traverse City, you can still make an appointment for the next pop-up online. Any organizations wanting to host a mobile office can do so here.
