Two Toddlers Found Unresponsive in a Pond in Otsego County

Two toddlers were found unresponsive in a pond in the Lake Arrowhead Property Owners Association Monday, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post were sent to Iroquis Trail in Hayes Township around 4:32 p.m. after the report of two missing two-year-old children. They arrived on the scene around 4:47 p.m., Michigan State Police say. The two children had been missing for about 40 minutes.

MSP says the troopers found the children in the pond at a residence across the street at 5:04 p.m. Both children were unresponsive, and Michigan State Police say life-saving measures were started.

One of the children, a two-year-old boy from Elmira never recovered and was pronounced dead, according to MSP. They say the other child, a two-year-old girl from Gaylord, was pronounced dead later.

MSP does not suspect foul play at this time, but detectives and troopers from the MSP Gaylord Post are continuing their investigation.
