Hook and Hunting: Wait Is Over For Anglers Eager To Get Out On The Ice

Attention anglers that have been eager to get out on the ice.

The wait is finally over!

Fisherman and the owners at Pilgrim Village in Cadillac have been out to check the thickness of the ice on both Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell.

They say the ice is currently 3 to 8 inches thick right now.

With the recent snow melt and cooler temperatures, anglers say they are seeing some of the best early ice conditions in years.

"We haven’t had any snow to speak of, so it’s just making more and more ice every day. The DNR says no ice is safe ice, and for those of us that do go out there this is the best we’ve had and it’s good," says Steve Knaisel, owner of Pilgrim Village.

The staff at Pilgrim Village says most anglers are catching good sized pike, and even finding walleye during the evening.
