A Northern Michigan artist won the country wide Michigan State Duck Stamp Contest.
Christopher Smith, of Suttons Bay, has taken first place in the event three times.
He won the contest back in 2005 and 2014.
The contest accepts entries every year from people across the country.
Smith says he loves being able to combine his artwork with his love of hunting.
”It’s real flattering. There’s so many good artists and the judging is so subjective, as any art viewing is and so if you win, it just feels good that you nudged out a bunch of really good artists"
Smith will serve as a judge for the contest next year and can enter again in 2018.
