DNR is Starting A Program to Relocate Turkeys From Southern Counties

Fairview is named the Wild Turkey Capital of Michigan but reports show a shortage of the birds.

So the Department of Natural Resources has begun a program to relocate turkeys from southern counties where they thrive to areas in Northern Michigan where they are disappearing.

The hope is about 100 birds will be set free in Oscoda County and another raft in Lake County to repopulate the turkey thin areas.

The releases are open to the public, if you would like to join the DNR during a release you are asked to contact your local DNR post for details.
